The Barrio Morisco-Mudejar

The stepped cobbled lanes of the old Moorish quarter are lined with whitewashed houses built wall to wall, many of them centuries old. Thick stone walls, old roof timbers and gaps under clay tiles give rats and mice plenty of ways in, and because the houses are joined, rodents move freely from one home to the next.

The same roof gaps are favourite nesting spots for wasps. Nests are often hidden behind tiles or inside wall cavities above narrow streets, so they need careful removal. See our wasp and hornet removal service for how we handle them safely.

Terraces, fincas and the Rio Higueron

Below the village, the hillsides are terraced with avocado, mango and olive trees, watered from irrigation ponds and channels. Standing water in albercas and water deposits is a major mosquito breeding ground through the summer, and rats live along the channels and in tool stores.

The Rio Higueron valley, popular with walkers, keeps the land green and damp right up to the edge of the village. Fincas along it see more rodent and insect activity than houses higher up. Our rodent control page explains how we bait and proof rural properties.

Festival season and village businesses

Every August the Festival of the Three Cultures fills Frigiliana with visitors, and restaurants and bars around Calle Real and the church square run at full capacity. Extra food waste and busy kitchens mean more cockroaches and flies. We can schedule preventive treatments for businesses in the weeks before, so problems never reach the dining room.

Working in a pedestrian village

Much of the old quarter is closed to vehicles, so we plan visits around parking at the top and bottom of the village and carry equipment in. Just tell us your street when you book. If you also own property down in Nerja or further into the mountains in Competa, we can arrange both visits together.
